David Knight
David is a Solution Architect with QinetiQ Australia. Previously, he served as a Weapons Electrical Engineer Officer in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) for over 20 years, where he reached the rank of Commander.
He has undertaken test evaluation and system certification roles within the RAN, the Capability, Acquisition and Sustainment Group, and Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group. Within these organisations, he led and managed the acceptance and operational testing of maritime combat systems, guided weapons, and underwater autonomous systems, including the rapid introduction of key combat capabilities that were recently demonstrated. David has undertaken postings and operational deployments on naval warships, which has enabled him to bring together traditional test and evaluation techniques, systems engineering and mission engineering to deliver capability to Navy. As a Solution Architect, David plays a key role in using digital engineering concepts and methods in the development of Defence capability and combines his operational experience with engineering knowledge to advance the adoption of mission engineering.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Communication) degree from RMIT University, a Master of Systems Engineering degree, and a Master of Project Management degree from UNSW. Additionally, he is a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Australia, and a Certified Practising Project Manager with the Australian Institute of Project Managers.
